Enjoying

Tao Te Ching – Chapter 44

Is fame worth the sacrifice of our true nature?
Does wealth compensate
for the loss of ourselves?
Which causes more suffering –
accumulating things,
or letting them all go?

Looking outside ourselves
for approval and security,
we find only suffering.
Understanding that we are capable for our lives,
we stop exhausting ourselves
and begin enjoying ourselves.

We have pretty much let go of everything – possessions, positions, security. I can testify that we are happier and more at peace than ever before in our lives. There are, of course, twists and turns that can throw us off balance, but at the center is a trust and contentment that cannot be shaken by the changes that seem to come so quickly. We have discovered that we can do this! We can live our lives according to our own hearts! We don’t have to ask permission or look over our shoulder. (Though we do. Out of habit.) We get tired, but not exhausted. We are enjoying ourselves!
